FAQ

Over what period of time should Folio®forte or Folio® be taken?

When planning a pregnancy and up to the end of the 12th week of pregnancy, we recommend taking Folio®forte which contains 800µg of folic acid and 150µg of iodine. According to recent scientific insights, this leads to an assured folic acid status being built up more rapidly - which is optimum for the first trimester of pregnancy. This is also the case if a dietary supplement containing 400 µg of folic acid has been taken for a longer period of time. Folio® contains 400 µg of folic acid and 150 µg of iodine, thereby covering the daily requirement from the 13th week of pregnancy and during the breastfeeding period.

Should Folio® / Folio®forte be taken at the same time as iodine therapy?

No, unless expressly prescribed by your doctor.

Why do the Folio® forte and Folio® products also contain vitamin B12?

Vitamin B12 is the "auxiliary vitamin" to folic acid. Without this vitamin, folic acid cannot carry out its various functions.

When and how should the Folio®/ Folio® forte tablets be taken?

Take 1x1 tablet per day, swallowed whole with a little fluid during a mealtime. It is not important to take the tablet at the same time every day.

Is it possible to overdose on Folio®/Folio®forte?

One tablet covers the daily requirement of folic acid and iodine. Due to the above-average iodine intake, a higher dosage should only be taken upon the express instruction of your doctor.

Has the taste of the Folio®/ Folio®forte tablets changed?

Due to increasing lactose intolerance among the population, we changed the ingredients of all our folic acid products at the beginning of 2006 to create a lactose-free preparation. The tablets have thereby lost their slightly sweet taste, which was caused by the lactose (milk sugar).

How are the raw materials generated?

The raw materials are produced or obtained synthetically and correspond to the requirements of the European Pharmacopoeia. Only the anti-caking agent magnesium stearate (magnesium salt of fatty acids) is of vegetable origin. The tablets thus contain no constituents of animal origin.

Do Folio® / Folio®forte contain gluten, lactose or fructose?

No, Folio® does not contain any gluten, lactose or fructose. The tablets can therefore be taken even with an existing gluten, lactose or fructose intolerance.

Do Folio® / Folio®forte contain any artificial colours, flavourings or preservatives?

No, Folio® does not contain any artificial colours, flavourings or preservatives.

How should Folio® / Folio®forte be stored?

The tablets should be stored in a dry place and at room temperature (not above 25°C/77°F). Please ensure that tablets are kept out of reach of young children.

INDICATIONS

These micronutrients including folic acid, vitamin B12 and iodine play a decisive role in the development of your child. In Folio® forte, these three valuable micronutrients are united. Especially, Folio® forte contains 800 µg folic acid which helps to ensure a rapid and a secure build-up of the folates reserve. With just one tablet per day, you can supplement your diet during pregnancy and the breastfeeding period in a healthy, safe and effective way.

So that you are optimally prepared for your pregnancy right from the start, you should commence with Folio® forte as early as the pregnancy planning stage and continue up to the end of the 12th week of pregnancy. From the 13th week of pregnancy, you may ensure your supply in these nutrients by taking you can secure your requirement of folic acid, vitamin B12 and iodine with Folio® contains 400 µg of folic acid.

  • Folic acid: is particularly significant, as it is crucial for all cell division processes and for the growth of maternal tissue. In order to provide the best foundation for the normal development of nascent human life, this vitamin should be available and enough in the mother’s body right in sufficient volumes at the start of pregnancy. A sufficient dietary intake of acid folic during pregnancy may help to prevent major birth defects such as neural tube defects (NTD such as spina bifida, anencephaly), cleft lip and palate, urologic malformation and heart defect. It can also help reducing the risk of miscarriage and premature labour.
  • Vitamin B12: For carrying out its tasks, folic acid requires vitamin B12, as both complement and work closely together in all areas. Furthermore, vitamin B12 plays a decisive role in blood formation. This is highly important for pregnant women due to their enormous increase in blood production. .
  • Iodine: is a mineral which is needed for the production of thyroid hormone. These hormones control the growth and development of the organs, the nervous system, brain, musculature and the skeletal system. Did you know that from the 12th week of pregnancy your child’s thyroid begins its own hormones production? To achieve this, the thyroid relies solely on the iodine taken up in your diet. These hormones control the growth and development of the organs, the nervous system, brain, musculature and the skeletal system. An iodine deficiency during pregnancy can lead to miscarriage, perinatal mortality and more specifically for the infants retarded growth and serious intellectual impairment.
  • Most public health agencies around the world make recommendations:Refer to the recommendation: www.watchesgiftguide.comNote: This product is not a medicine and ineffective alternative medicine

Folic acid –the “pregnancy vitamin”

Folic acid (vitamin B9) is especially important during pregnancy and lactation since it plays an essential role in all cell division processes and in the growth of the maternal tissue.

Consequently it also plays a specific role in nascent life and should be available at a sufficient level right from the beginning of pregnancy. Therefore it is recommended to take a folic acid supplement as soon as you wish to become pregnant.

Other advantages in having a sufficient folic acid supply are: its active participation in the correct function of the immune system, its enhancement of a balanced homo- cystein blood level and that it contributes to reducing fatigue.

Vitamin B12– the “facilitator vitamin”

Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) plays likewise an important role in the immune system and in the formation of blood. Furthermore it is an essential vitamin for the nervous system and for the regulation of energy resources. Folic acid can not accomplish its tasks without vitamin B12. Both vitamins work hand in hand. Hence a proper level of vitamin B12 is as critical as a sufficient supply of folic acid.

Vitamin D3– the “sunshine vitamin“

Unlike most vitamins, vitamin D is being produced by your body when you expose your skin to sunlight; worth knowing, it actually functions like a hormone. Vitamin D is essential for strong bones because it helps the body using calcium and phosphorus from the diet. Vitamin D also plays a role in the cell division process and in the normal function of the immune system.

Iodine – the mineral

Iodine is a vital mineral which is needed for the formation of the thyroid hormones. These hormones control the growth and development of all organs, of the nervous system, the brain, the muscles and the skeleton. Moreover iodine is a critical nutrient in order to maintain healthy skin and balanced energy resources.

DIRECTIONS

Directions: take one tablet a day with liquid during mealtime. The tablets come in a practical click dispenser which releases a tablet per push.

For: women who plan a pregnancy and pregnant.

When and how long should Folio®forte be taken?

For an optimal preparation to pregnancy, we recommend to take Folio®forte as soon as you plan a family. Folio®forte contains 800 μg folic acid which helps to ensure a rapid and a secure build-up of the folates reserve. In order to cover the increased needs for folic acid, vitamin D3, vitamin B12 and iodine during pregnancy, it is recommended to take the tablets until the end of the 12th week of pregnancy. From the 13th week of pregnancy on, you may ensure your supply in these nutrients by taking Folio®. As breast fed newborns solely rely on the nutrients contained in mother’s milk, Folio® should definitively be taken until the end of the lactation period.

Contraindications: Women with thyroid disorders should seek medical advice from their doctor prior to taking Folio®forte and should eventually change to Folio®forte iodine-free.

Dosage: take one tablet a day with liquid during meal time. Do not exceed the daily intake. The tablets come in a practical click dispenser which releases a tablet per push.

Storage and cautions: store in a dry place (not in the bathroom or refrigerator!), not above 25°C and out of direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
